Eunjeong Choi
(b.1980- Korea)
Eunjeong Choi, who is specialized in painting, strengthened her passion for developing her artistic framework. After graduating with her BFA in painting, Choi earned an MFA in painting from Hong-ik University, where she conducted further study for her Ph.D to achieve in-dept academic knowledge along with professional painting skills. Having garnered her initial experience in architecture design that uses monotone colors using pencil and watercolor on grid patterned paper, the artist started to develop her abstract painting with patterns combining images of both nature and architectural structures by gradually expanding the usage of color.
Through Soorim Cultural Foundation in 2018, the artist won the Soorim Art Prize, which is unusual as a painter, held a large-scale solo exhibition, and was selected as the SOMA Drawing Center Archive Artist in 2019. Furthermore, Choi successfully performed the commission work by the Meta office Seoul in 2022, which is one of the Meta Open Arts projects founded by Meta. She has actively participated in several group exhibitions and solo exhibitions through major art organizations since 2014.
The artist is deeply interested in ongoing environmental phenomena, such as the natural environment and climate change, which are continuously arising issues today. She is also detecting various issues in art field and is planning various collaborative projects to continue her role in awakening people's awareness of the current era as active participants who breathe in harmony with the times through her works.
