Kim Guiline

Monochrome painter Kim Guiline, a pioneer of monochrome painting in Korea, studied French at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and moved to France in 1961 to focus his studies on French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupery. He studied art history at Dijon University and taught himself painting. He held his first solo exhibition in Dijon in 1965. He also attended Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts from 1965 to 1968 and studied under French artist Roger Chastel, earning his BFA at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in 1971.
His solo exhibitions including the first exhibition in Dijon(1965), Myung-Dong Gallery, Seoul(1977), Johyun Gallery, Busan(2001) and Selected Works: 1967-2008, Lehmann Maupin Gallery, New York(2017). Major group exhibitions include Salon de Mai, Paris(1973), École de Seoul, Seoul, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), Seoul(1977), 15th São Paulo Biennale, São Paulo, Brazil(1979), The Facet of Korean and Japanese Contemporary Art, Gwangju Biennale, Gwangju, Korea(2000).
Kim¡¯s works are in the public collections of, among others, the Musée des Beaux-arts de Dijon, Musée des Beaux-arts de Dijon, Musée National d¡¯art modern de la ville de Paris, Centre National d¡¯art contemporain, Centre National d¡¯art et de culture Georges-Pompidou, National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea, Seoul Museum of Art, Busan Museum of Art and Daegu Art Museum.
