KoreanABOUT THE ARTIST
Roh Gippeum (b. 1991, Korea)
Roh Gippeum, an artist working in both painting and ceramics, uses her art to strip
away the original concepts and functions that society or systems assign to objects .
Instead, she focuses on the process of intuitively capturing the forms of objects
through her own perceptual and sensory systems . Depending on the artist's
perspective, the previously distinct formal elements of individual objects either connect
or dissolve into shadows, resulting in entirely new images that had never existed
before, left behind on the canvas . This process stems from her desire to see things
as they truly are, and the unique rhythm created by the new masses born from her
gaze and hands transforms ordinary objects into something extraordinary .
Roh Gippeum graduated with a BFA in Ceramics from Seoul National University and currently lives and works in Ulsan . Her notable solo exhibitions include Portions of the World (New Spring Project, 2023 ), Fullness : Gippeum Roh (New Spring Project, 2022), and PATTERNS FROM FIGURES (New Spring Project, 2021 ). Roh has also participated in significant group exhibitions such as Polyphony (GALLERY IN HQ, 2025), ART NOW 6: Rise and Shine (Seoul Auction, 2022 ), NOMAD ST. MORITZ 2020 (Switzerland, 2020). The artist was selected as an artist-in-residence at the Seoul Art Space Sindang 9th-10th (Seoul, 2018-2019).
