KoreanABOUT THE ARTIST
Hojung Kim (b. 1988, Korea)
Kim Hojung (b. 1988) is a contemporary South Korean ceramic artist, installation artist, and university professor whose practice explores the relationship between earth, material, landscape, and the enduring traditions of Korean ceramics. Working primarily with clay, she approaches ceramics not simply as functional objects, but as sculptural forms through which nature, time, rhythm, and material can be experienced.
She studied Ceramics at Kyung Hee University's College of Art & Design before completing graduate studies in Industrial Ceramics at Hongik University. From 2017 to 2019, she continued her studies in Ceramics & Glass at the Royal College of Art in London. In 2024, she completed the doctoral coursework in Ceramics at Kyung Hee University. During her time in London, she also worked as a design intern at Studio Levien, gaining experience at the intersection of contemporary craft, design, and material research.
Her recent solo exhibitions include Landscape of Earth at New Spring Project, Seoul (2026); SAI 間 at Yeol Bukchon-ga, Seoul (2026); Soil, Truth, Beauty at New Spring Project, Seoul (2024); ETERNAL RHYTHM OF BLUE at 776 Space, New York (2022); and BEYOND THE BLUE at Galerie Jovana, Aix-en-Provence, France (2021).
Kim has participated extensively in exhibitions in Korea and internationally, including presentations at KCDF, the Korea Ceramic Foundation, the Cheongju Craft Biennale, Genesis Space, Soluna Fine Art in Hong Kong, Galerie Handwerk in Munich, Hauser & Wirth Somerset, the British Ceramics Biennial, and Ambiente Frankfurt. Her work has also been shown in Paris, New York, Hong Kong, Marseille, London, and Japan, reflecting a practice that bridges Korean ceramic traditions with an increasingly international contemporary context.
She has received several notable awards and recognitions, including a Special Mention at the Cheongju Craft Biennale (2021), Talente at Handwerk & Design in Munich (2020), Talents and Trend recognition at Ambiente Frankfurt (2020), and Fresh at the British Ceramics Biennial in Stoke-on-Trent (2019).
Through a continuous investigation of clay, surface, color, and form, Kim creates works that evoke geological landscapes and natural rhythms while maintaining a distinctly contemporary sensibility. Rooted in the materiality of earth and the heritage of Korean ceramics, her practice seeks to reveal the quiet beauty, energy, and memory contained within clay.
